Botanical nomenclature: Annona muricata

Common Name: Soursop, Graviola
Family: Annonaceae
Origin: Caribbean and Central America

A small tree from the Caribbean and Central America that produces large, green fruit with whitish, delicious, creamy flesh that has a sweet aromatic and somewhat acidic taste. It also has a number of uses in traditional medicine and provides a number of substances that are promising candidates in the treatment of cancer, high blood pressure and other illnesses. It is popular and widely cultivated in the tropics and prefers a tropical climate.

The germination is pretty simple but, it can take long time for them to germinate.

The key to have a successful germination is the temperature and moisture. soaking the seeds in the water for few days and than plant seeds about 1” deep in moist coconut coir. You have to keep the soil moisture all the time and germination container is essential. The temperature must be above 25 C and you should have no problem to germinate it.

Be very careful with watering the seeds. To much water and low temperature kill the seeds. Also when you see the sprouts, don’t overwater the seedlings otherwise they die. Keep the temperature high above 20C and you get the nice tree seedlings.

Just watch for TEMPERATURE AND WATERING

Soursop is adapted to areas of high humidity and relatively warm winters; temperatures below 5 ° C (41 ° F) will cause damage to the leaves and small branches, and temperatures below 3 ° C (37 ° F) can be fatal. The fruit becomes dry and is no longer good to concentrate.
